The group welcomes both novices, and geologists who wish to share their knowledge - the aim is to learn from each other in a social and friendly setting. The group is active and expanding and the current premises provide plenty of room.

The format is informal, with illustrated presentations and discussions, and member participation(e.g. bringing pictures or specimens) and field trips - with an emphasis on learning about local landscape and geology.
