Sue Parker (our U3a member and great contributor to our newsletter) has a fascination with orchids which stems from her childhood in the Far East. The colourful wildflowers growing over her garden fence in Singapore were the kind of exotic orchids that many people in Europe now have in pots on windowsills. Writing and occasionally broadcasting on wildlife and countryside topics, Sue is the author or co-author of 12 books including ‘Wild Orchids of Wales - how, when and where to find them’.

The search for wild orchids has taken Sue to many countries; but, as she says, there is a very special satisfaction in finding and identifying beautiful orchids close to home - and for the past 22 years Sue’s home, initially in Southwest Wales and now in North Wales, has been a base for studying the wonderful wildflowers of Wales and, in particular, its wild orchids - the subject of this illustrated talk.

An active conservationist and newspaper columnist, with her husband, Sue produced and continues to maintain the website www.first-nature.com which receives some two million visits a year. Many of the hundreds of enquiries received through the website come via the extensive Wild Orchid selection.

Please join us to listen to this very experienced talker who knowledge and passion for her subject is undeniable and I hope we will all be touched by this same passion.
